The third leg is from Maine to New York/up the Hudson River (ship American Independence). They will be 241 feet long, 56 feet wide, and feature the hybrid catamaran design that enables both shallow draft access and stable sailing along lakes, rivers, bays, and America’s coastline. American Cruise Lines says that the average age for all of its passengers is low 60s. On that sailing, the average age was easily 75, with many passengers older than that. Because the ship has an elevator and the staff makes accommodations for people with mobility issues, it's an excellent choice for those who feel rigorous travel is beyond them.

In August 2021, ACL announced a major refurbishment project for its entire paddlewheeler fleet. The redesigned boats were renamed "American Splendor" (fka America), "American Heritage" (fka Queen of the Mississippi) and "American West" (fka Queen of the West), and only American Pride retained its name. The refurb project was via partnership with Studio DADO (Miami-based interior design firm) which was commissioned for the American Melody's interior spaces.

In 2023, American Cruise Lines launched 2 new boats in another new series of small coastal cruise ships, American Eagle and American Glory. In 2024, American Cruise Lines will launch the 3rd and 4th ships in the series, Coastal Cats, American Liberty and American Legend. American Cruise Lines has announced more riverboats and small ships, already under construction, set to launch in 2025. There are four Sky Suites, measuring 424 square feet, and a pair of 550-square-foot Grand Suites which are situated forward and with panoramic views overlooking the front of the vessel. These suites have a separate bedroom and living area and a large balcony with a private dining area.
Call ports include Yorktown-Williamsburg VA, Crisfield MD (Tangier VA), Cambridge MD (Oxford MD), St Michaels MD, Annapolis MD. ACL's Coastal Cats/catamarans are currently planned for launch/inauguration two units per year - in 2023 (Eagle, Glory), 2024 (Liberty, Legend), 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028. In November 2016 ACL announced the start of the construction on a 3rd (larger / new-class "Modern Riverboat") vessel with capacity 195 passengers. In mid-February, 2020, ACL signed with Vicksburg MS a 20-year deal for preferential berthing rights and ACL investments for upgrading the riverfront docking facility.

American Legend's interiors have been designed by Miami-based Studio DADO, which has created the décor on all of American Cruise Lines' newest riverboats, along with numerous larger oceangoing cruise ships. Inspired by U.S. history, the choice of color palettes, furnishings, and artwork reflect the culture of New England, Chesapeake Bay, and the South East. The ship is identical to its three predecessors -- American Eagle, American Glory, and American Liberty -- launching in 2023 and 2024. They start with 230-square-foot single cabins which have large sliding doors that lead to a private veranda.

8-day / 7-night "Cape Codder Cruise" (visiting 8 ports and featuring navigation on the Cape Cod Canal) is a roundtrip departing from Boston MA. Call ports include Glouchester MA, Plymouth MA, Martha's Vinyard Island MA, Falmouth MA, New Bedford MA, Provincetown MA. Themed as "American Revolution Cruise", they traverse the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River, and the York River, with Washington DC serving as homeport. The 10-night/11-day "American Revolution Cruise" itinerary visits Annapolis MD, St Michaels MD, Cambridge MD, Norfolk VA (overnight), Williamsburg/Yorktown VA, Mount Vernon VA, and ends with an overnight in Washington DC. Since January 2022, all ACL deals with added domestic flights (between airports in the USA, which includes all the company's 19 ports in 16 US states) are with flat-rate priced airfares (fixed/not subject to future changes).

First announced in January 2022, Project Blue will encompass a fleet of 12 small ships designed to sail on almost any domestic U.S. cruise itinerary. The vessel, which will launch in 2024 and become the 19th ship in the expanding American Cruise Lines' fleet, is built for coastal operation and features a streamlined catamaran design. American Cruise Lines says it will offer the best qualities of ocean expedition adventure cruising with the stability of river cruising -- all while land is never out of sight.
All ACL ships are USA-built/refurbished, by the shipbuilder Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corporation (Salisbury, Maryland). The new U.S. built fleet will operate exclusively in the United States, with a focus on small towns and close-to-home adventures. The Main Lounge is located all the way forward overlooking the ship's bow, while a secondary lounge (known as the Sky Lounge) is situated one deck up, all the way at the rear of the ship. 270 degree views high above the river make this a favorite spot to enjoy a delicious cocktail as you take in the delightful passing scenery.
Starlink's LEO satellites (positioned at low Earth orbit) provide stable and fast internet connections to moving marine vessels and ACL beta-tested the service in 2022. As a promo, in 2023, ACL offered the Starlink Wi-Fi and the shipboard Room Service complimentary. With all cruise seasons, choose clothing with a simple color scheme that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits. For cruises between late June and early September, temperatures are generally in the 70s and 80s, varying slightly depending on where you are along the coast.
